Kandian drum

We had lots of drums with our tradition. 

 Gatabera

The typical Sinhalese Dance is identified as the Kandyan dance and the Gatabera is indispensable to this dance. It is a long, double-headed drum with a bulge in the middle, worn around the player's waist.


Kohomba, ahala, gan sooriya, milla, kos are use to make this drum stem. Goat skin and cattle skin are use to make drum eye. These drum make 4 main soud they are "thath, jith , thon, nan". Jin sound is special to this drum. This drum length three hands and three fingers .  

There are 8 parts we can found 

1 - drum rob 

2- kapum hama 

3 - drum puhula

4 - right eye  5- left eye

6 - kypudi ring

7 - weniwara rob string 

8 - drum stem.

We can see this drum at welcomes, perahara, kohomba kankariya, magul bera are some of them. These drum very populate in kandy and all over the contry because of it sound.
